Built a functional and comfortable chair

Background

This was a chair created in my “Design for Fabrication” class. The goal was to create a sturdy chair out of wood. That's it!

Finished Chair

The picture on the right shows the cutout that was used to attach the legs to the base of the chair. This was an angled cut on a miter saw done to a specific depth. This allowed me to attach the legs in a way that looked seamless and also supported weight.

Outcome/Learnings

• Tools used: Miter saw, dowel jig, nail gun, wood glue, etc.

• Making a cut list and planning how the pieces would come together made building the chair a quick process

• It’s important that the wood is bearing the load and not the fasters (bolts, nails, etc.)
