Personal Project
3D printed a soap dish for my parents
Background
Ever since I got a 3D printer, my parents have decided that it is time that I fix all the things that I broke as a kid. I broke this “one of a kind” soap dish when I was playing soccer in the house many years ago. Unfortunately, they stopped selling the soap dish and it needed to be a very specific shape that other soap dishes didn’t fit into.
Process
1. Take measurements of the metal ring using calipers
2. Design a soap dish in Onshape based on those measurements
4. Make changes to improve the fit and print in PETG to get a more durable water resistant final product
Soap Dish Holder
3. Print a prototype in PLA and see how it fits
Outcomes
Improved my 3D modeling and got practice designing with tolerances
Played around with slicer settings to get the smoothest surface finish
Convinced my parents (for now) that my 3D printer isn’t a complete waste of money
